Recently a company named iWriter, which is little more than a content mill catering to internet marketers and others
looking for cheap content, sent out a bulk email with the intent of drumming up some new business.
Unfortunately, the company owner was careless and sent it to his writers as well. Why was this problem? The email played up the fact that customers could get content for “dirt cheap”. Dirt cheap is right! iWriter offers 100 word articles for .67 cents! Not only that, but the email also told prospective customers that they have the right to reject articles and if they do, the writer doesn’t get paid-even if they are well written but the customer changed their mind!
In other words, they want you to spend time writing articles for a dollar or two with no guarantee they will actually get paid for it. If you find that insulting you’re not alone. Writers-those who work for iWriter and those who don’t-are outraged. The company’s owner, Brad Callen, had absolutely no remorse for it and even said the sales email had resulted in 1,000s of new orders and the writers should be grateful! He clearly doesn’t get it.
Unfortunately he’s not alone. All across the net there are thousands of job postings from people looking for content. They say they want high quality, original content that is usually between 300-500 words. However they also expect to get that for a penny a word or less. I’ve even see job postings offering $3 for a 1,000 word article! Writers aren’t valued at all and it’s a shame.
