We ask our writers some questions designed to share insight, wisdom and resources with our readers.
What is your favorite writing site/online resource?
My favorite writers' community is FanStory.com where I post all of my personal essays, fiction and poetry. I have learned so much from being reviewed and sharing with my writing peers and mentors on this site.
Have you ever faced a situation that almost caused you to give up on being a writer?
I came as close to giving up my dreams of being a writer when I made the huge newbie mistake of taking every freelance assignment that would came my way. I took one that called for writing 20 articles on colon cleansing. I was deep into crap when I considered hanging up my mouse for good.
Is your writing career how you envisioned it?
My writing career is not yet as I envision it. I am just beginning now on new plans for starting a writing business of my own and not relying on Elance.com to find work for me. I have a lot of dreams yet to fulfill, and I am excited about them. I have many more books to write, a Web site to set up and articles to write that I hope will be beneficial to others.
What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
As I was told by my first professor of creative writing in college, "Writers write." There's no class or workshop you can take, or conference or retreat you can attend, or book you can read that will give you what you need to be a good writer. Absolutely nothing is better for a writer's knowledge, education and skill building than to write, preferably every day, and straight from the heart.
